Kadalora Kadalai

Image
Staying indoors is really annoying and restrictions makes us want for more of what we are missing. The other day, my son was asking why this government is not even allowing us to go to beach and come back.  I felt how he must be feeling to say so..  Kids are the worst impacted ones who have to accept restrictions forced at this age. But all is well .. they will learn to live as better beings after undergoing all this pressure;) Speaking of beach I was reminded of the sundal and kadalai there, so I made this for snack and thought of posting it up. Those of you all who love beach walk would never say no to that crunchy munchy kadalai chat served steaming hot. I don't deny the fact that its unhygienic to have food kept in open but its a really healthy snack which has balanced nutrients and protein as it has a lot of vegetables packed into it.So its better to make it at home and stay safe and healthy.  My family loves it too. At least, when we satisfy our cravings - we feel b...

Creamy Pasta

Image
Pasta is a traditional Italian dish. STOP! That's what you think! Did you know that pasta is actually a descendant from the Asian noodles. Today pasta comes in many shapes and sizes. It has evolved so much that we now have 650 types of pasta. They have pretty interesting names as well...like: penne , macaroni, and raviolli to name a few. Today, I am using penne rigate (tubular pasta with ridges) pasta to make creamy Alfredo pasta. Another fun fact about pasta is that it literally means 'barley porridge' in Greek and 'dough pastry cake' in Latin, but however it means 'paste' in Italian, due to the way pasta is made:by mixing water and flour with a number of ingredients like butter, cheese etc . So next time when your neighbor who just got back from a trip to Italy tells you about the wonderful pasta there, remind him/her that pasta is actually from Asia! Now without further ado lets start making this delicious delicacy! Preparation time: 30 minutes Serves-6 In...

Snake gourd rings

Are your kids dodging to have they veges like mine. Here are my tricks to handle them.. All kids are addicted to fried foods nowadays, so why don't we sway to their side to bring them back on track at least till they grow up. Snake gourd has a lot of benefits like it detoxifies our kidneys, enhances digestion strengthens respiratory track  etc.. So, we need to add it to our diet as much as possible. How I started doing this recipe is a funny story. Once when I was sick I asked my maid to cut vegetables for me so I told her to cut what was kept on the counter as thin disk and remove the seeds inside. I had washed and kept bitter guard on the sink but she took the snake gourd which was in my shopping bag and had cut it as rounds and left it in a box in the refrigerator. So next day morning when I had to cook for school I found this and it was late so I tried something different with the time I had and landed up with this dish long back. Then we started doing it once in a while. Since...

Sambar Sadam

Hello everyone today I'm going to post a one pot meal as its Sunday and also solar eclipse. Yesterday my mom had called saying the rules for eclipse, she said we should eat before 8 am and after that we shouldn't take anything till 2 pm and should take head bath and then cook after 2 pm... and so on.  So, I thought what to prepare immediately at that time when all will be hungry.   Then it clicked to me that i had already taken pictures for posting sambar sadam but didn't write. So, why not today so that I could refresh myself and prepare it immediately and you can also try preparing this immediately in just 20 minutes after the eclipse- if you follow it. Even otherwise, its a healthy and holistic meal with all the vitamins and minerals required to boost our immunity at the current situation. When I used to complain of any pain or other.. I have heard my grandpa often saying eat your drumstick and brinjals it will take care of the rest. Its very true, eating local vegetab...
