Jowar Kuzhipaniyaaram

This is just an extension of my earlier post where I shared the recipe for jowar dosa, you can find the detailed description of how to prepare batter using jowar here.In this post I'm just giving the recipe for kuzhipaniyaram using the same jowar batter.This is just for y'all to start using more millets in your daily diet in different ways. 

Preparation time:10 minutes
Yields 40 paniyaarams

Ingredients:
  • Jowar dosa batter-3 cups(fermented)
  • Oil-as required
  • Onion-1(big)
  • Carrot-1 no.
  • Green chilly-3 nos.
  • Curry leaves-2 sprigs
  • Salt- as required
For seasoning:
  • Split urad dal-1/2 tbsp
  • Mustard-1/2 tbsp
  • Jeera-1/2 tbsp

Preparation:
1.Wash and finely chop onion, green chilly, carrot and curry leaves as in the picture

2.Heat 1 tbsp oil in a pan and add the seasonings to it when hot, when they splutter add the chopped veggies, curry leaves and cook slightly.

3.Pour this into the batter and mix thoroughly
4.Heat the paniyaaram kadai and grease generously with oil

5.Pour the batter to fill 3/4th of each mould and pour little oil on top.
6.Cover and cook for 5 minutes.
7.Open and flip the paniyarams and brush the paniyarams with oil or ghee and allow to cook for another 2 minutes.

8.When its golden brown on both sides it means its ready.

9.Then take the paniyaarams out of their moulds.


10.Serve hot with spicy chutney or thuvayal of your choice.

Notes:
Paniyaram is a dish which you should prepare on a day when you have enough time so that it comes out great because, it is to be cooked to perfection from start to finish on medium flame. 

You can make sweet paniyaram by adding strained jaggery syrup into the fermented batter along with scraped coconut and cardamom powder.

Jowar is a millet with high fiber content and protein.So, we essentially need to try substituting it with rice wherever possible so that kids will also starting liking it if we give them from early age. But, try not to over do it.

The leaf shaped edge helps to clear out the sides for flipping and the pointed edge is used to remove the paniyarams.
