Multi- Grain Roti
This dish was originally called idiappan maavu roti in chettinadu. In chettinadu, idiappan maavu is a very fine, hand pound flour, which is made yearly once and stored for the whole year.Even today we prepare this flour in the traditional methods. Nowadays there are people who make idiappan maavu in this method and sell, so we also buy it from them. But here,I have modified the recipe to suit the needs and get the health benefits of using multi grains.
Preparation time:
20 minutes
Serves 4
Ingredients:
Ragi flour- 1cup
Idiappan flour-1/2cup
Manna health mix flour-1/2 cup
Big onion-1
Green chillies-3
Curry leaves-2 sprig
Jeera-2 tablespoons
Coconut pieces-1/2 cup
Salt to taste
Oil for frying
Preparation:
In a mixing bowl add all the flours and salt to taste along with the chopped veggies, coconut and jeera. Mix thoroughly, adding water to make it into a dough.
Heat the oil in a kadai for deep frying, then wet your hands and make small lemon sized balls of the dough, then flatten it using your fingers and leave it inside the oil carefully.
Your multi-grain roti is ready to be served with a chutney of your choice.
Notes:
If you want to send it for kids lunch box, you can wheat flour instead of rice flour. But these rotis have to be consumed immediately as they harden later.
You can also add veggies like carrot and beans while mixing the dough.
In chettinadu, the make this usually dothis roti with only idiappan flour, and they call it idiappan maavu roti, but I added multi grains just to add nutritional value to the dish so tthat its healthy for the kids too.
This is an instant dinner when you don't have batter at home or enough time to make something else.
Alternatively this can also be cooked on a dosa tawa or shallow fried on a pan.
It also tastes as good as this version
