Chicken 65

It is one of the most popular south indian starter which got the name chicken 65 because it was the 65th item in the menu card, for the 1st time in buhari hotel, Chennai.

All children love this dish due to the bright red colour and its unique juicy taste. Whenever we go out to eat, they order this dish, but in hotels they add msg, ajinomoto and may other substances. But in this recipe, we make the whole dish from scratch, so its healthy and its also more tastier. This way you don't need to worry about the harmful chemicals going into your mouth.

Preparation time:10 minutes
Marination-30 minutes
Serves 6

Ingredients:
  • Chicken(boneless-skin off)- 750 grams
  • Ginger garlic paste-1 tbsp
  • Egg-1
  • Lemon-1
  • Kashmiri chilly powder-1 1/2 tbsp.
  • Coriander powder-2 tbsp.
  • Corn flour-3 tbsp
  • Rice flour-2 tbsp
  • Turmeric powder-1/2 tbsp
  • Curd-3 tbsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil to fry
  • Curry leaves-to garnish

Preparation:
  • Chop the chicken into bite sized pieces
  • Wash the chicken thoroughly atleast 3 times, and drain the water completely before marination

  • Add curd and 1 tbsp salt, mix thoroughly and let rest for 5 minutes.

  • Now, add all the ingredients given except lemon and mix thoroughly.

  • Then add the juice of 1 lemon and mix well, cover it with a cling wrap and leave it to marinate in the refrigerator.

  • Take a kadai, pour oil for frying. Heat it and then start adding the chicken,few pieces at a time.

  • Fry until they are crispy. Then remove them from the oil and drain it on a paper towel to remove the excess oil.
  • If you plan to serve this ddish to your guests, then you can wash and fry curry leaves for just 1 minute, and use them to garnish your dish.
  • Your chicken 65 is ready to be plated.


Notes:

  • The inside of the chicken 65 will be juicy and it will absorb the salt, only if you marinate with curd and salt for 5 minutes as we did in the first few steps.
  • If you are allergic to eggs, you can substitute the egg with 1/4 cup thick curd instead. 
  • Be very careful to add the correct amount of salt because we have already added salt in the first few steps of the recipe.
  • If you preparing it for guests you can marinate and keep it for upto a day in the refrigerator
