Thoothuvilai thuvaiyal
Thoothuvilai is a very good for cold and cough.Today in my garden I had fresh thoothuvilai so I thought of making this recipe. During this lockdown I thought of sharing this recipe with you all as this will boost your immunity. Here goes the recipe...let's go!
Preparation time: 20 mins
Serves 4
Ingredients:
Onion-1 big
Tomato-1 cup
Tamarind- 1 inch piece
Green chilly-4
Coconut-1/4th
Salt to taste
For seasoning:
Split urad dal-1/4 teaspoon
Mustard-1/4 teaspoon
Channa dal-1 tbsp.
Hing-2 pinches
Preparation:
Pour oil and heat it, when it is hot, add the seasonings, when they splutter add the onion, tamarind, and green chilly, then fry.
When the onions turn translucent, add tomatoes along with coconut.
When the tomatoes turn mushy, add the thoothuvilai and cook till its colour darkens and the leaves shrink.
Then blend this mixture smoothly in your mixie and add very little water(just enough to adjust the consistency)
Your thoothuvalai thovaiyal is ready to be served.
Notes:
Many of the thoothuvilai recipes say that you can use the leaves, but the stems with the thorns are to be included here. If the thorny stems are thick and mature, you can exclude them.
You need to grind the thovayal as smoothly as possible so that the texture is not grainy and kids won't find the difference.
