Thakkali Sambhar

Preparation time:
20 mins.
Serves 4

Ingredients:
Tomato-2 medium
Potato-1 medium
Sambhar onion-15 nos.
Green chilli-4 numbers-slit
Moong dal-1/4 cup

Seasoning:
Mustard-1 teaspoon
Split urad dal-1/2 teaspoon
Methi seeds-1/4th teaspoon
Asaphoetida-2 pinches
Oil-2 tablespoon
Curry leaves-1 sprig


Preparation:
Pressure cook the dal for two whistles,till it reaches a mashy consistency

in a pan, add oil and when it is warm and ready add the seasonings

When it splutters, add onion, and cook till turns transparent
Now add the tomatoes and fry till they become mushy
Then add the green chilies and curry leaves
Now add the potatoes and required amount of salt and fry for a few minutes.

Add enough water so as it covers the vegetables and pressure cook it for just one whistle
Once its completely cooled down, open it and check for salt
If its very thick you can add a little water to adjust the consistency, then bring it to a brisk boil

Next, add finely chopped corriander leaves.
Your instant tomato sambhar is ready to be served

Notes:
This is again a breakfast side dish so we don't add the sambhar powder
You can reduce the number of green chilies if you feel yours are too spicy.
Always keep the proportion of tomatoes twice that of the onion so that You can a tangy flavour because this sambhar does not use any tamarind.
