This is one of the side dish recipes which you can use along with idly or dosa.This is also known as red chutney and very popular it chettinadu as a side dish for vellai paniyaaram.So here goes the recipe:
 



Preparation time: 10 minutes
Serves 4

Ingredients:
Onion-2 no.big
Tomato-2 no medium
Red chilly-7 nos(long)
Tamarind-1 inch piece
Salt to taste

For seasoning:
Mustard-1 teaspoon
Split urad dal- 1 teaspoon
Mustard oil-3 tablespoon
Asaphoetida-2 pinches
curry leaves-1 sprig

Preparation:
Wash and rough chop the onions and tomatoes
Add the chopped tomatoes, onions, red chilies, tamarind and salt. Puree it into a fine paste in the blender.

Take a pan, keep in medium heat. pour oil, when it is warm and ready, add seasonings along with the curry leaves. When it starts to splutter turn the flame to sim

Now slowly add the pureed mixture into it. Be very cautious because it will start to splutter as the oil is very hot.

Cook it for 10 to 15 minutes stirring occasionally until the oil oozes out.
Switch off the flame and it is ready to be served along with idly or dosa.

 
Notes:
If you wish to use the chutney for a week, then you have to keep it under flame till the oil oozes out, otherwise you can just cook the chutney till it becomes warm for immediate consumption.
This chutney holds good upto seven days
it gets its name rojapoo thovaiyal as the colour of it resembles a red rose
