Chocolate chip cookies
The word cookie comes from the Dutch word meaning 'little cake'. The first cookie invented was the 'Pizelle' , which was also known as the Italian wafer cookie since they originated in Italy. Then they became popular all over Europe and now you can make your own homemade cookies in your kitchen with this delicious and fun recipe.
Preparation time:50 minutes
Serves - 40 cookies
Ingredients:
All purpose flour-2 3/4 cups
Baking soda-1 teaspoon
Baking powder-1/2 teaspoon
Butter-1 cup(softened)
Eggs-2
Sugar-1 cup
Brown sugar-1/2 cup
Vanilla extract-1 teaspoon
Chocolate chips-to garnish
Preparation:
Preheat your oven to 180 degrees
Sieve all the dry ingredients(except sugar) into a mixing bowl.
In another mixing bowl, take butter and eggs. Beat them in medium speed until they are fluffy.
Now add sugar and vanilla extract into it and mix well.
Add the sieved dry ingredients into this bowl and mix thoroughly until they become homogeneous and forms a lump like dough.
Now in a cookie pan (non-stick), spoon the dough 1 tablespoon each and place it such that it has space to raise while baking.
( do not make perfect balls just spoon it )
The best way to know if your cookie is done- After 8 minutes, if you go near the oven and you can smell the cookie that means its ready.
Then carefully remove the cookie as it might be soft in the middle and place them on a cooling rack for atleast 15 minutes.
Your cookie will be crispy on the outside and chewy inside after it cools down.
Notes:
Most people add only white sugar to their cookies, but adding brown sugar makes it soft and chewy. It also gives the cookie its trademark golden colour.
If you are fond of chocolate, then you can add some chocolate chips while mixing the dough at its last stage.
The centre of the cookie is supposed to be soft when you remove it from the oven, this makes it chewy.
It will solidify once it cools down to room temperature. So DO NOT OVER-BAKE!
If you plan to use an aluminum pan, then please USE PARCHMENT PAPER otherwise, the cookies will stick to the pan.
Also, use mittens while removing the cookies as the oven will be EXTREMELY HOT!
